On October 1, 1883, Brockton became the first place in the world to have a three wire underground electrical system when Thomas Edison threw a switch to activate it.
History
The Brockton 21st Century Corporation is private non profit ( 501 c 6) Corporation established by a home rule petition by the Mayor and City Council.
In 1993, Chapter 137 of the Acts of 1993 of the Massachusetts General Laws created the Corporation. The purpose back in 1993 was to eliminate unused, underused or underdeveloped area of the city as it constituted an economic liability.
It was further stated that commercial sector of the economy provides one of the best opportunities for jobs at higher wages for residents of the city.
