The Board of Directors created the position of Executive Director to run the day to day operations of the Corporation. Executive Director, Mary Waldron, works daily to fulfill the mission and strategy of the Brockton 21st Century Corporation.

Our office administrator and bookkeeper, Bethany Walecka, works from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. daily. In 2011, part-time administrative assistant, Maura Russell, joined our staff.

The 2010-2011 budget allowed for the launching of a small business pilot program and OnPoint Coaching was hired for a 10-month period. Seeing its value, the Corporation is dedicated to meeting the needs of our small businesses in Brockton.

Supplementing the staff, the Corporation collaborates with Bridgewater State University and values their ability to provide internships to the Corporation. Anyone interested in an internship opportunity should contact the Executive Director.

Executive Director's Job Description


• Reports to the Board of Directors of the Brockton 21st Century Corporation (B21).
• Prepares recommendations for actions and programs that are consistent with the directions issued by the Board.
• Carries out the programs approved by the Board.
• Coordinates programming with the Mayor of Brockton and other City Officials.
• Builds staff capacity to manage/implement programs.
• Initiates efforts to promote B21 to multiple public and private audiences within and outside of Brockton.
• Directs, manages and coordinates operations relating to Economic Development in Brockton to promote business, industrial and job development in the City.
• Maintains a collaborative working relationship with local/regional associations, particularly the Metro South Chamber of Commerce and the Old Colony Planning Council.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Meets regularly with Board of Directors and Executive Committee to review approved programs, assess progress and identify new needs.
2. Provides regular updates to the Board on the financial status of B21.
3. Directs staff efforts in implementation of approved programs.
4. Establishes performance goals B21 staff, monitors and records staff performance and adjusts staffing as necessary.
5. Develops marketing efforts to promote Brockton as a business-friendly community
6. Initiates personal and recurring contacts with key public officials, business owners and community leaders.
7. Markets the City through its web site, regular E-blasts, radio and cable TV, newspapers and direct mailings.
8. Identifies Brockton’s competitive advantages in multiple industrial sectors and prepares arguments and promotions to sell Brockton to targeted industries and businesses.
9. Identifies specific businesses with needs matching Brockton’s strengths and develops aggressive recruitment strategies.
10. Identifies all Brockton industrial/commercial sites greater than 50,000 Square Feet and assesses their potential for new or expanded uses.
11. Manages and coordinates site location projects for properties greater than 50,000 Square Feet.
12. Advises B21 staff on site location assistance for sites less than 50,000 Square Feet.
13. Participates in community activities to develop opportunities, ascertain needs, serve investors and promote the Brockton 21st Century Corporation’s goals.
14. Prepares and makes presentations to community, government, and business organizations to create a greater understanding of economic development among these groups.
15. Supports efforts on Central Business District revitalization/CARD.
16. Initiates the Main Street Façade Program.
17. Promotes economic growth and stability by partnering, networking and supporting industry and business organizations in Brockton and the region.
18. Monitors governmental legislation, taxation and other fiscal matters to determine impact on Brockton’s economy and makes recommendations to the Board.
19. Manages relationship with Brockton Rox and Shaw’s Center, particularly relating to physical requirements of the facilities as B21st is the landlord of the facilities.
20. Other duties as may be assigned by the Board via the Chairman.
